Surgery and aftercare

From the day of surgery to aftercare: this is how you are well supported.

How your surgery works

From arrival at the clinic to discharge, we support you with the organisation, while medical care is provided by the partner clinic’s team. Doctors and nursing staff speak German or English. The exact sequence depends on the procedure and clinic.

  1. Arrival and admissionYou arrive at the clinic on the agreed day. Admission is handled by the clinic team: documents, ID, medication list and allergies are checked. A companion can usually come with you.
  2. Consultation with the doctorYou discuss your wishes, the planning and possible risks, ask any outstanding questions and sign the consent form. The photos you submitted in advance serve as a basis. The findings are checked once more on site, which may result in an adjustment of the planning and price.
  3. Anaesthesia consultation and preparationThe anaesthesia team clarifies pre-existing conditions and the course of anaesthesia with you. The team then prepares you for the operation, for example by marking the incision lines.
  4. The operationThe procedure usually takes place under general anaesthesia. How long it lasts depends on the operation; for a breast augmentation, usually one to two hours.
  5. Waking up and stay at the clinicAfter the procedure, the nursing team monitors you. Depending on the operation, you either stay as an outpatient or for one to two nights. Pain relief and dressings are adjusted by the team.
  6. Discharge and final consultationBefore discharge, the team explains wound care, medication, how to behave at home and follow-up appointments. You receive your documents and, if you have implants, your implant passport.
  7. Journey homePlan your return journey with a companion. Whether and when you can fly or travel longer distances, clarify beforehand with your doctor.

Aftercare following surgery

The first few days

Arrange for a companion for the journey home and the first few days. The clinic team will explain how to behave at home and give you instructions on medication and dressings.

The first few weeks

  • Physical rest: no heavy lifting, no sport until your doctor allows it
  • After breast surgery, wear a supportive bra or the prescribed compression garment for as long as instructed
  • Keep wounds clean and dry, change dressings and plasters as instructed
  • Take prescribed medication as directed
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol, as this supports wound healing
  • Check beforehand about the return journey and flights

Follow-up appointments

A first check-up usually takes place after about 10 to 14 days, for example with your GP. Further check-ups depend on the procedure. With implants, regular check-ups are also advisable in the long term. Keep your implant passport safe.

Scar care

A scar matures over months. Scar treatment, for example with silicone plasters or gel, massage and sun protection, can support the healing process. Discuss with your doctor which care suits you and when to start. More on this in our article Aftercare and scar treatment.

When you should get in touch

Please contact the clinic or us immediately if you notice fever, increasing pain, severe swelling, redness, warmth, unusual discharge, shortness of breath or marked asymmetry. In the event of acute symptoms, please seek medical help immediately, in Germany via the emergency number 112 or the nearest emergency department.

Our support

We remain your point of contact after the operation too, arrange queries with the clinic where needed and help with follow-up appointments. For possible follow-up costs, you will find information at Follow-up cost insurance.
