By plane

There are airports in Prague, Brno and Karlovy Vary, among other places. Allow plenty of buffer time for your return flight and discuss with your doctor when you can fly after the operation.

Accommodation for you and your companion

Before the operation

You will usually spend the night before the operation in a hotel or guesthouse near the clinic. This saves you the journey on the morning of the procedure and gives you peace and quiet.

After the operation

Depending on the procedure, you will either go home the same day or stay in the clinic for one or two nights. Afterwards, accommodation near the clinic is a good idea so that you can recover and, if necessary, get to a check-up quickly. Some clinics also offer guest rooms for accompanying persons.

Booking through CZ-Wellmed

On request, we will book rooms for you and your companion. Please let us know what you would like as early as possible, at the latest 14 days before the procedure. Tell us your arrival day, the number of nights and your room preferences, for example single or double room.

Tips

  • Room on the ground floor if possible, or with a lift
  • Short distances to the clinic, pharmacy and restaurants
  • Plan for a companion, especially in the first few days

Preparation and requirements

Examinations before general anaesthesia

For an operation under general anaesthetic you will usually need:

  • an internal medicine examination including health questionnaire, physical examination and ECG
  • laboratory values: full blood count, electrolytes, liver and kidney values, blood clotting
  • written clearance for surgery from your doctor

At many clinics, the examination can also be carried out on site on the day of surgery. Some clinics, for example České Budějovice (Budweis), require it in advance from your GP, with results no more than 14 days old. For procedures under local anaesthetic it is usually not necessary. You will receive the exact requirements with your documents.

Medication and habits

  • No antibiotics or blood-thinning medication such as aspirin for two weeks before the operation, unless prescribed otherwise by a doctor
  • Discuss regular medication and dietary supplements with your doctor in advance
  • Significantly reduce alcohol and tobacco; not smoking supports wound healing
  • No acute infections on the day of surgery

Who will not be operated on

People under 18 and people whose last general anaesthetic was less than eight weeks ago will not be operated on. If you have pre-existing conditions, please clarify your fitness for surgery with your GP beforehand.

The day before and the day of the operation

  • Remain fasting, as instructed by the clinic
  • No make-up, nail varnish, jewellery or contact lenses
  • Shower and wear fresh, comfortable clothing
  • Bring your documents, ID and medication list

At home after the operation

  • Rest, take it easy and wear the prescribed compression garment or support bra, as instructed by your doctor
  • Check-up with your GP after about 10 to 14 days
  • If you have questions or notice anything unusual, contact the clinic or us
  • Covering possible follow-up costs: Follow-up cost insurance
