General information and organisation
Why is surgery in the Czech Republic often cheaper than in Germany?
Staff, rental and living costs are lower in the Czech Republic. Implants and materials, however, cost the clinics about the same as in Germany. The price difference says nothing about quality. What matters are specialist qualifications, hygiene and aftercare. You can find current prices at Prices.
Are the doctors specialists in plastic surgery?
Our partner doctors are specialists in plastic (and aesthetic) surgery. You can find their qualifications and careers on the pages of the Clinics.
Can I communicate with the doctor and staff?
The doctors generally speak German or English. In some clinics, nursing staff also speak German. The clinic pages state which languages the respective doctors speak.
Do doctors and clinics have liability insurance?
Doctors who operate in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are required to have professional liability insurance. Ask your clinic for the details before your surgery.
How does surgery with CZ-Wellmed work?
Consultation, appointment reservation, surgery arrangement order, deposit, travel, preliminary examination, surgery and aftercare. You can find the procedure in eight steps at Surgery process.
How long do I have to wait for a surgery date?
That depends on the clinic, the doctor and the procedure. Appointments are often possible within a few weeks. You can see available dates in the appointment calendar.
Can I postpone or cancel my surgery date?
Yes, but deadlines and fees apply. The details can be found in the Terms and conditions. Please contact us as early as possible.
What documents and examinations do I need before surgery?
For surgery under general anaesthesia, usually a medical examination with ECG and blood tests, plus clearance for surgery. Depending on the clinic, this can also be done on site. You can find details at Preparation.
From what age is surgery performed?
Our partner doctors only perform cosmetic surgery from the age of 18.
Do I need someone to accompany me?
For surgery under general anaesthesia, we recommend a companion for the journey there and back. On request, we will book accommodation for both of you.
How do I travel there and how do I get to the clinic?
By car, train, long-distance coach or plane. You can find distances on the clinic pages. On request, we arrange a pick-up service, for which a charge applies.
What travel documents do I need?
EU citizens need a passport or ID card. Check the current rules for your nationality before travelling.
Will I get a sick note?
A cross-border sick note for aesthetic procedures is generally not possible. Plan for holiday or rest days. How long depends on the procedure.
Costs, payment and protection
How much does breast surgery cost?
Prices for a breast augmentation with standard implants start from €2,500, in each case including anaesthesia. All from-prices can be found at Prices. You will receive the binding price with the appointment confirmation.
What is included in the price?
According to our price overview, all medically necessary services including anaesthesia and clinic stay are included; these are fixed-price offers with no hidden extra costs. Your written price confirmation is what counts.
Does health insurance cover the costs?
Generally not for purely aesthetic procedures. If there is a medical necessity, for example severe complaints caused by very large breasts, ask your health insurer before the surgery.
Can I claim the surgery against tax?
Purely aesthetic operations are not tax-deductible. Only the costs of treating an illness can be deductible. If in doubt, ask your tax adviser.
Can I pay for the surgery in instalments?
We do not arrange loans ourselves. You can find information on partners at Financing. Check loans carefully and only borrow what you can repay.
How can I protect myself against complications?
Follow-up cost insurance can cover the costs of necessary follow-up treatment. More on this at Follow-up cost insurance. Dissatisfaction with the result is not insured.
Is the result guaranteed?
No. The result of an operation cannot be guaranteed, because it depends on your body, healing and your cooperation. How a revision is handled will be explained to you during the consultation and before the contract is concluded.
Why don't you show before-and-after photos?
The German Act on Advertising in the Health Sector (Heilmittelwerbegesetz) prohibits advertising with before-and-after images for surgical plastic-surgery procedures. Your doctor will discuss what is realistic during the consultation.
Breast augmentation and implants
How does breast augmentation with implants work?
After the consultation and planning, the doctor inserts the implant through a small incision, for example in the inframammary fold, at the nipple or in the armpit. The implant is placed beneath or on top of the chest muscle. More on this at Breast augmentation.
Which implants are used?
We use implants from the manufacturers Motiva, Polytech, Nagor, Arion and Mentor. We will tell you which brand your clinic uses before the appointment confirmation. More at breast implants.
Round or anatomical: which shape is right?
That depends on your breast, your build and your wishes. Round implants give more fullness in the upper part, while anatomical implants have a teardrop shape. You make the decision together with your doctor.
How long do breast implants last?
Implants do not last indefinitely. How long varies from person to person. Regular check-ups are important, and if anything unusual is found, a replacement may become necessary.
What risks are there?
Like any operation, this one carries risks: for example secondary bleeding, infection, wound-healing problems, capsular contracture, changes in nipple sensation, asymmetry or the need for a second operation. Your doctor will inform you about your personal risk.
What is capsular contracture?
The body forms a shell of connective tissue around every implant. If this tightens strongly, the breast can become hard or painful. Treatment or an operation may then be necessary.
How large should the implant be?
The volume depends on breast width, tissue and your wishes. Implants of 180 to 400 ml are often used. During planning, the doctor recommends a suitable volume, often with trial implants.
Can I breastfeed after the operation?
Breast augmentation does not necessarily rule out breastfeeding, but depending on the incision and placement it may be affected. If you want to have children, discuss this with your doctor beforehand.
When can I go back to work and exercise after the operation?
Office work is often possible after about one to two weeks, strenuous exercise usually only after about four to six weeks. Your doctor will give you individual advice.
What are Mia Femtech and Preservé?
Newer procedures from the manufacturer Motiva. The implant is inserted through a very small access point, and recovery is said to be shorter. It is not a breast augmentation without surgery. Read about the opportunities and limits at Mia Femtech and Preservé and ask us about availability.
How does augmentation with autologous fat work?
Fat is removed by liposuction from another part of the body, processed and placed into the breast. No implant is used. The augmentation is moderate and not all of the fat remains permanently. More at autologous fat transfer.
Breast lift, breast reduction and male breast
When does a breast lift make sense?
When the breast has sagged, for example after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss, and you would like a firmer shape again. More at Breast lift.
Can a breast lift and augmentation be combined?
This is often possible. After the examination, the doctor decides whether an implant alone is enough or whether a lift is necessary. The price for the combination can be found at Prices.
How much tissue is removed in a breast reduction?
That depends on your findings and your goal. If very large breasts cause severe complaints, coverage of the costs may be possible. More at Breast reduction.
What is gynaecomastia and how is it treated?
Gynaecomastia is an enlargement of the mammary gland in men. Depending on the findings, fat is removed by liposuction, glandular tissue is removed, or both. More at Gynaecomastia.
Can nipples or inverted nipples be corrected?
Yes, that is also possible. More at Nipple correction.
Preparation and aftercare
How do I prepare for the operation?
Two weeks before the operation, no blood-thinning medication such as aspirin without consulting your doctor, significantly reduce alcohol and tobacco, and stop smoking if possible. You will receive your documents with the appointment confirmation.
How does smoking affect healing?
Smoking narrows the blood vessels and impairs circulation. Wounds heal more slowly and the risk of complications increases. The longer you abstain before and after the operation, the better.
How long do I have to stay in the clinic after the operation?
Depending on the procedure, one to two nights; for some procedures it is outpatient. The clinic and the doctor will tell you beforehand what to expect.
Can I fly after the operation?
Short flights are often possible after consultation; for long flights you should wait about two weeks. Ask your doctor before booking.
Who takes care of aftercare once I'm back home?
After about 10 to 14 days, a check-up takes place with your GP. If you have questions or notice anything unusual, contact us and the clinic. More at Aftercare.
How long do I have to wear the support bra?
Usually several weeks, day and night. Your doctor will determine the exact duration.
When should I avoid the sun and sunbeds?
Protect the scars from UV light for at least three months, otherwise pigment spots may develop.
How long after one operation can I have a second under general anaesthesia?
There should be at least eight weeks between two operations under general anaesthesia.
What happens to my photos and data?
We treat your data confidentially and in accordance with the GDPR. You send photos via the secure photo upload, we store them encrypted and delete them after 90 days if no order is placed. Details in the privacy policy.
