How long an implant can stay in the body is individual. There is no fixed lifespan, but there are reasons that can make a replacement necessary or sensible.
Possible reasons
- Capsular contracture (hardening of the tissue capsule around the implant)
- Implant damage or change in shape
- Wish for a different size or shape
- Changes to the breast due to age, weight or pregnancy
What to bring with you
Bring your implant passport, which shows the manufacturer, model and serial number. If you do not have it, the documents from your first operation often help. For a replacement, a mesh (internal bra) can also be discussed. You can find more on materials and surfaces under breast implants.
